It's a Beautiful Time For Growth

Hello friends!

I'm so happy to see you here! I really wanted to write a post that was meaningful and helpful at this time because I really do believe this is the perfect time to re-evaluate what we are doing as individuals and as a society.

The Coronavirus is near us and we've been called to take this serious to avoid spreading it more. Quarantine can seem like a dreadful thing, considering some of us are not working right now and being home all day for a couple of weeks is not what we're accustomed to. But before this, we were living a fast paced life. Some of us don't know how to relax, some of us don't know how to think of anything other than money, or shopping, or partying, and now we're having to stay away from those things. As a society, our favorite past time is working nonstop to have money to spend on clothes, shoes, alcohol and meaningless things. We don't take care of our bodies long enough to realize that all the choices we make now will determine how we live our lives when we're 60, 70, 80 years old and we don't slow down enough to reflect on the things that matter the most, like our families, our happiness, our purpose in this life and our emotional, mental and spiritual well being.

My quarantine happened about 10 months ago, when I had Santi. Before I had Santi, and before I got pregnant, I was living my life meaninglessly. I was partying, I was shopping, I was dating boys just to not be alone and I had no idea what my purpose in this life was. Then came pregnancy, which clearly meant letting go of alcohol, partying and dating boys, so I naturally reconnected with nature, I read books, I still shopped, I still worked my butt off but I was finding a calmness in my heart that I didn't have before. And, although during this time I was emotionally and mentally unstable thanks to he-who-shall-not-be-named, these things brought me peace. After I had Santi, I was forced to stay home those first couple of months because, naturally, new born babies should not be exposed too much. So, the working stopped, the shopping stopped but the TV was used quite more often than I want to admit. I was numbing out in front of the TV to not face my reality; I was a single mom who was broke and depressed. It took a while to realize but once I noticed how many days were going by and how they were all the same, I wanted it to stop, I wanted it to change. I started reading more, I was listening to podcasts, I was hanging out with my friends, I was spending my time doing things that took care of my soul. Although, at the time, things were hard and my life was miserable, I'm glad I went through it because I'm now where I am emotionally, mentally and spiritually thanks to it.

Now we all have the chance to make something beautiful out of a hard situation, now we all can use this time to realize that the way we are living is not taking us anywhere other than destroying Mother Earth and creating more fear and anger between us. There are some things we need to bring to our awareness and here are some of the things that need to change.

Meaningless Behavior

This topic might be sensitive to some people but it needs to be said; shopping, alcohol and media are not serving the greater good! I'll start with shopping. Shopping for clothes, shoes, purses and accessories are creating more waste that end up in landfills and not only that, but are mostly made in sweatshops in small, poor countries. Many stores have really cheap prices on their clothing, making it easier for us to buy more but spend less. The fact is, we buy meaninglessly; we use the shirt, or pant, or shoes once or twice, and then forget all about it, going to buy more and creating more waste. The clothes end up up in rivers, lakes, the ocean and landfills. I know we all want to look good and we all want the best new thing but sit down and think for a second of how your need to impress other people is hurting the Earth. Also, a huge chunk of clothing is made in poor countries where they hire woman and children to make the clothes, paying them little to nothing for all the hours and labor they put into making this. By buying your clothing in second hand stores or really just learning where they come from and where they end up, can make a huge difference to all the suffering going on in the world.

Alcohol has become the number one thing people run to when life is just not working out for them. Like media, alcohol is used to numb out feelings and thoughts that we don't want to deal with. Take some time to bring awareness to why and how you use alcohol. The first answer that jumps to mind is usually the main reason why. Media is used to numb our feelings and thoughts but also to inflict limiting beliefs in our minds. Songs and TV shows about partying, drinking, drugs, violence and sex get absorbed by your subconscious and unconsciously become our behaviors, thoughts and words.

Taking care of our health has become the last thing in our to do list. We only care for our health when we become ill or when it's simply just too late. Why wait until you depend on medication to be conscious of your choices? By reducing the amount of processed, packaged foods and incorporating more whole foods we can start to see a difference in our health. I don't know about you, but I don't want to live to be 80 and depend on other people to put on my shoes or have to live on medication for the rest of my life. I want to be as healthy as I can be for as long as I can be to do the simple things in life. I also don't want to be a part of the ever-growing number of people with chronic diseases in the U.S. The gut is the answer to inflammation, and inflammation is the answer to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, obesity and many more. It's been said that people that have a clear purpose of what their life is and have a craving to live are the ones that take care of themselves. Are you one of them?

Stillness bring forth the things we don't want to see, hear or know. But how beautiful is it to notice the things that are not working in your life anymore and finding the courage and strength to change it? Declutter and donate the things you don't need anymore, learn something new, meditate to find calmness, sing and dance to find freedom and journal to let go of doubt, fear, and hate. Create the life you love because you're the only one that can.

If you need any support or you need a friend, I'm here for you.

I hope you find some light during this time and I hope you choose your growth over your same limiting behavior and beliefs.

I'll see you soon!

With love,
